TURKEY'S EUROPEAN FUTURE

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is to be guest of honour at a VIP dinner-debate jointly organised by the Security and Defence Agenda (SDA) and its sister think tank Friends of Europe at the Cercle Gaulois on Monday 19 January 2009 at 19.00.

Premier Erdoğan's keynote speech on "Turkey's European Future" will be part of a wider debate in front of some 120 high level participants.

SDA Pandemic Preparedness debate

On November 13th, the SDA hosted a meeting of health and security experts to discuss how attention is being given to the disparity in risk analysis from both public and private sector actors engaged in pandemic preparedness throughout Europe.

Questions on the evening's agenda included:

What, if any, are the criteria being used? How are these criteria to be measured? What role does stockpiling play in the risk analysis process? What mechanisms should be used to ensure business continuity? And how can national governments lend assistance to the private sector in planning for business continuity?

Dos and Don'ts for avoiding a new Cold War

The SDA is pleased to present its most recent discussion paper on the Georgia-Russia conflict last August. During the conflict, the SDA contacted a host of expert policy-makers, scholars, analysts, and industry leaders for their views on EU-Russia relations and the potential threat of another Cold War. Although brief, the conflict has significant implications for broader European security, as reflected in the opinions of the discussion paper
