On November 13, the SDA will host a private dinner debate ‘Risk Analysis and Preparedness for the next Influenza Pandemic’ which will assemble a small group of high-level European health policy officials and security policy experts.
For more than four years now, the SDA has brought together a group of high-level experts under the auspices of its Bioterrorism Reporting Group. Questions about European preparedness in the case of a flu pandemic have frequently arisen in this group and the dinner will provide an excellent opportunity for a continued exchange of ideas on Europe’s priorities and aims in the area. Our on-the-record dinner debates allow free-flowing discussion around the table for 20 to 30 participants to exchange views and ideas.
The November debate will focus on how attention is being given to the disparity in risk analysis from both public and private sector actors engaged in pandemic preparedness. What, if any, are the criteria being used? How are these criteria to be measured? What role does stockpiling play in the risk analysis process? What mechanisms should be used to ensure business continuity? And how can national governments lend assistance to the private sector in planning for business continuity?
