The external dimension of EU Police Co-operation – towards global and integrated international policing in West African countries

International Conference organised by Interpol and the Belgian Presidency of the Council with the support of the Security & Defence Agenda

The current EU Internal Security Strategy framework recognizes interdependence between European internal and external security, while the Stockholm Programme underlines co-operation with INTERPOL in both areas. In addition, the regional focus has been already translated into several strategies on drugs (2005-2012), organized crime (June 2009) or, for the whole of Africa, into the Joint Strategy adopted in Lisbon (December 2007). Since no development is possible without security, and no security without development, the police community and INTERPOL have suggested bringing together, during the forthcoming EU Belgian Presidency, high-level representatives of relevant organizations investing in West Africa with other key participants at a Symposium on 30 September 2010 in Brussels.
