French intervention plans for Syria

In a move resembling early French support for the former Libyan opposition, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé officially recognised the Syrian National Council (SNC) in talks with SNC leader Burhan Ghalioun on November 23rd. “The Syrian National Council is the legitimate interlocutor with which we will continue to work,” the minister said.

Restrictions for F-22 ordered
The US Department of Defence has issued further safety procedures for its most advanced fighter jet F-22 after pilots complained of oxygen shortages during the flights and refused to fly the aircraft despite the assurance of Air Force leaders that the plane is safe.

Central Europe to create a joint combat unit
Defence ministers from the Czech republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia signed a joint statement on May 4, pledging to create a 3000-strong combat unit for EU forces by early 2016. The unit, to be commanded by Poland, is set to have its first training in late 2015.

New air defence radar to be tested
