World military expenditure 2011
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on April 17th released a major data set on world military expenditure for 2011 as a pre-launch of its annual report, to be published in June 2012. The global expenses amounted to $ 1.74 trillion.

Senior NATO general to tackle force transformation

The financial crisis means international security organisations have to constantly rethink their roles. NATO’s Lisbon summit outlined ‘restructuring’ and ‘modernisation’ as priorities, but implementing them remains under-defined. General Stéphane Abrial, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation, will debate his perspective of NATO’s force transformation and reform agenda in Brussels tomorrow evening.

Concerns about terrorism and increasing viral infiltrations worldwide highlight the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructures to attack.
