New Russian defence minister

Sergei Shoigu was announced this morning as the new Russian Minister of Defence, following the dismissal of Anatoly Serdyukov amidst allegations of corruption. Shoigu was elected as governer of the Moscow region earlier this year, and served as Minister of Emergency Situations from 1994-2012. He holds the rank of Army General, and is an ally and close friend of President Vladimir Putin.
